Metagenomics

Course Description:
This is an introductory course on Metagenomics, also known as the “microbiome”. The course provides a good introduction to analysis methods for 16s RNA and the significance of microbiome/metagenomics studies. A major focus in the metagenomics introductory course is on the impact of bacterial diversity (microbiome) to human health. You will learn about multiple types of sequencing methods, 16S RNA and DNA, and then practice analysis of 16s sequencing data using the user-friendly T-Bioinfo platform. For practical assignments, we will use a small educational project taken from a public domain dataset.
Many of the methods for processing and analysis of Next Generation Sequencing data are also covered in Transcriptomics and Genomics sections. If you would like to learn more about these methods, consider registering for these modules. For those interested in workshops and programs that utilize these modules, please visit our events and organizations sections.
In subsequent courses on metagenomics, significance of bacteria to environment and agriculture will also be covered.
Main topics covered in this module:
· Introduction to Metagenomics
· Significance of bacteria to Human Health
· What is 16s RNA?
· Types of Metagenomics Sequencing Methods
· Typical Metagenomics Pipeline
Passing grade & Module completion criteria:
70% is the minimum score to pass
50% : Total quizzes
50% : Course project
After completing the theoretical and practical assignments, you will receive a certificate of completion supported by Pine Biotech and the Tauber Bioinformatics Research Center.
